Dear Lone Star Park Customer:
As you may know, legislation is being considered in Austin to allow Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) at existing race tracks in Texas. While VLTs would tremendously improve the racing product at Lone Star Park, the primary reason they are being considered is because of the financial benefit to the state of Texas.
Our legislative leaders are being forced to choose among many painful ways of raising money for the state in order to fund education and reduce property taxes. At a time when many Texans are traveling to neighboring states such as Louisiana and Oklahoma to gamble, it makes sense to allow expanded gaming at race tracks in Texas where people can already make a bet.
Allowing VLTs at racetracks can generate more than $1.2 billion for the state of Texas. This can help keep the sales tax down and avoid payroll taxes that could cost many Texans their jobs. They can also allow the state to fund many programs that we cannot afford without VLTs.
House Bill 9 (HB9) will bring new jobs to the Texas horse racing industry and allow the Texas horse racing and breeding industry to be on a level playing field with our neighboring states.
