Jobs & Economic Growth.
With the billions of new dollars that would now be spent within our borders, Texas’ businesses will gain a stronger economy and new investment while working families across the entire state will benefit with thousands of new jobs.

New Revenue For Property Tax Relief.
With new tax revenue earned from casinos, our state government has a better chance of providing property tax relief without resorting to new taxes that could hurt small businesses and slow job growth just when our economy is recovering.

Boost For Host Communities.
With spending on gaming staying within Texas and fueling the economy of host cities, new local tax revenues will help fund better schools, improve roads and parks, provide more police … and reduce the tax burden on homeowners.

Of course there is a small, yet vocal, minority who have brought to this debate the same “sky-is-falling” arguments we heard when the lottery and racetracks were approved in Texas more than a decade ago. To date, none of the dire consequences they promised would occur have come true and with many recent surveys showing 60% or more of voters supporting new gaming in our state, most Texans are rejecting these exaggerated claims as well.

The real issue facing Texas Senators and Representatives is not whether Texans should visit casinos or not. They already do so in our neighboring states taking billions of dollars with them each and every year. We must decide whether we want this spending, and the subsequent positive impact on the economy, jobs and tax revenue, to be enjoyed within our borders.

Many of the Senators and Representatives who had concerns during last year’s special session have had time to do their homework and are now supportive of letting voters decide on this important issue, especially after considering the economic benefits to Texas. We could not agree more.

It’s time to expand this debate beyond the floors of the Texas Senate and House by holding a statewide referendum election this fall. Let both the opponents and proponents present their arguments and then have voters provide the final say on this very important issue.

Once Texans review the facts – economic growth, thousands of new jobs, new revenues for better schools, roads and police, and the ability to assist with property tax relief should elected officials decide to do so – they will vote yes for limited casino gaming in a fall referendum election. But first, Texans must be given that right. This issue is too important to be kept from voters.
