Live Racing Begins Thursday, April 8
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (March 3, 2010) -- Lone Star Park's 2010 Spring Thoroughbred Meet, which will be conducted from Thursday, April 8 through Sunday, July 18, features a wide variety of fun-filled entertainment to complement its exciting Thoroughbred racing schedule.
The following are Lone Star Park's 2010 special promotional days -
Opening Weekend - Thursday, April 8 through Sunday, April 11
Join Lone Star Park for the kickoff of the 2010 Spring Thoroughbred Meet with performances by the Randy Rogers Band on Friday, April 9 and Blake Shelton on Saturday, April 10.
Also, on Opening Night, Thursday, April 8, the first 10,000 fans will receive either a Rachel Alexandra or Zenyatta commemorative, trading card with their paid admission. These special cards have been produced to celebrate the first meeting on the track of the top two Thoroughbreds in the country.
The next day on Friday, April 9, racing fans are invited to Lone Star Park to watch the simulcast of the Apple Blossom Handicap from Oaklawn Park and wager on the showdown between 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and 2009 Breeders' Cup Classic winner Zenyatta.
To complete the weekend on Sunday, April 11, Lone Star Park's Family Fun Day will feature a special appearance by SpongeBob SquarePants, bounce houses, face painters, pony rides and a petting zoo for the kids in the Family Fun Park.
Cajun Crawfish Boil - Saturday, April 17
Lone Star Park's Cajun Crawfish Boil on Saturday, April 17 in the Courtyard of Champions will be highlighted with live music from noon to 4 p.m. and a bucket of crawfish with new potatoes and corn special for only $8.95.
Dollar Days - Saturday, April 24 and July 10
Fans are invited to enjoy $1 admission, program, hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks and draft beer while watching exciting stakes races on Lone Star Million Preview Day, featuring the Texas Mile, on Saturday, April 24, and Stars of Texas Day on Saturday, July 10.
Kentucky Derby Day- Saturday, May 1
Watch, wager and win on the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs in the festive setting of Lone Star Park's Courtyard of Champions. All fans in attendance are encouraged to enter the Kentucky Derby Best Hat Contest for a chance to win one of two $500 prizes for most creative and most stylish hats.
May "Party at the Park" Tribute Band Series - Friday, May 7, 14, 21, 28
Each Friday night in May, Lone Star Park will feature one of the area's top tribute bands on the Courtyard of Champions stage from 7 - 10 p.m. The schedule of bands will be released at a later date.
Mother's Day - Sunday, May 9
On Sunday, May 9, the first 500 women (age 21 and over) through the Grandstand admission gates will have the opportunity to win a diamond valued at $2,500 in the Lone Star Park Mother's Day Diamond Dig. The dig will take place on the main track following the final race of the day.
Preakness Stakes Celebration in the Courtyard of Champions - Saturday, May 15
Catch all of the action of the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico in Maryland while enjoying live music in the Courtyard of Champions.
Memorial Day - Studs and Suds Micro Brew Festival & Harley-Davidson Giveaway - Monday, May 31
Kick off the summer with the excitement of Texas' richest day of Thoroughbred racing, Lone Star Million Day, while sampling from a wide variety of microbrews, listening to live music in the Courtyard of Champions, and a chance to win a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle at the Studs and Suds Micro-Brew Festival at Lone Star Park on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31.
Belmont Stakes Celebration in the Courtyard of Champions - Saturday, June 5
Watch, wager and win on the third jewel of the Triple Crown, the 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes from Belmont Park in New York, in a fun atmosphere with live music in the Courtyard of Champions on Saturday, June 5.
Father's Day - Sunday, June 20
The first 200 men (age 21 and over) to enter through the Grandstand admission gates will have the opportunity to win a propane gas grill in Lone Star Park's Father's Day Fish-for-a-Grill Contest. All contestants that catch the specially marked fish in the special Father's Day fish tank, located in the Courtyard of Champions, will be entered into a random drawing for the grand prize. Each angler will have five minutes of fishing to win.
Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration - Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4
Two spectacular nights of fireworks will be held at Lone Star Park on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4 following live racing, which begin at 5 p.m. on both days. In addition to the fireworks and racing, there will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family such as pony rides, a petting zoo, bounce houses, live entertainment and much more.
Fan Appreciation Day - Saturday, July 17
Lone Star Park salutes its loyal fans on Saturday, July 17, with special giveaways including prizes, gas cards, gift certificates and wagering vouchers throughout the day.
Double Date Discount Night - Every Thursday from April 8 to July 15 (except June 3)
New in 2010, every Thursday night of Lone Star Park's 2010 Spring Thoroughbred Meet, from April 8 through July 15 (except June 3 when there is no live racing), will be Double Date Discount Night. For only $64 (a $127 value), two couples will receive four general admissions, four box seats, four Lone Star Today racing programs, and four Value Baskets that include a cheeseburger, fries and large Pepsi.
Senior Days / Military Discount Days - Every Sunday from April 11 to July 18
Every Sunday throughout the Lone Star Park's 2010 Spring Thoroughbred Meet, from April 11 to July 18, will be Senior Citizens' Days as well as Military Discount Days. All senior citizens, age 62 or older with valid I.D., or members of any branch of the military, with a valid military I.D., receive free general admission.
Lone Star Park's 2010 Spring Thoroughbred Season will run four days a week every Thursday and Friday at 6:35 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:35 p.m. starting on April 8. The Lone Star Million program on Memorial Day will start at 1:35 p.m. and special twilight programs with post-race holiday fireworks on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4 (Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration) will commence at 5 p.m. (All times are Central Time).
Lone Star Park's 29-day, 2010 Fall Meeting of Champions for American Quarter Horses will be held from Sept. 17 to Nov. 13
