GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (June 28, 2008) – Real Appeal, owned by Roulette Racing LLC and trained by Thomas Amoss, rallied from last-to-first to beat his six rivals in the 12th running of the $75,000 Alysheba Stakes for three-year-olds at Lone Star Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Cliff Berry, Real Appeal trailed behind slow early fractions of 25.08 and 49.09. He moved himself into contention after three quarters of a mile in 113.23, and then pulled away from the field to stop the timer in 139.13 for the one-mile journey. Turnleftatthelight finished one-and-a-half lengths back in second, and it was three-quarters of a length back to Numismatist in third.
"My horse always comes from way behind and I broke real sharp,” said winning rider Cliff Berry. “I was a little worried, but he came back to me. I had a lot of horse. If you’re patient and you make the right decisions, you’re okay. If you have a lot of horse, I guess it doesn’t matter. I had plenty of horse."
With the win, Real Appeal improved his record to three wins from nine starts and the $45,000 winner’s share increased his career earnings to $132,482.
Real Appeal paid $4.60, $2.80, $2.40, runner-up Turnleftatthelight returned $14.00, $5.40, and Numismatist paid $5.60 for show. King Darius, Poni Colada, Cape Time and Crook’s Bodgit completed the order of finish.
