Burning Fancy Breaks Seven-Furlong Arabian Track Record

in Rancho Milagro Yegua Arabian Stakes

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009)   Burning Fancy, owned by Marvin Powell and trained by Jerry Partin, set a track record in dominating the 2nd running of the seven-furlong, $9,000  Rancho Milagro Yegua Arabian Stakes, for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and upward, over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday night.

Ridden by Kelsi Purcell, the 3-year-old daughter of Burning Sand never had an anxious moment in leading her eight rivals from start-to-finish.  After showing first out of the gate, Burning Fancy rolled along on the lead through opening fractions of :24.70 and :49.68 before stopping the clock in 1:31.06—setting a new Arabian course record for the seven-furlong distance.

Defending champion Jessys Princess, trained by Elizabeth Brand, finished 11 ¼ lengths back in second, and it was another 25 ¾ lengths back to third-place finisher Get Her Done.

Estrellita Ranch Arabian Stakes by a Head

Gail Murphy’s Le Fromage, trained by Helen Shelley and ridden by Charles Fletcher, Jr., took the lead at the sixteenth pole then barely held off second-place finisher Frynge Benefit to win the 2nd Running of the $9,000 Estrellita Ranch Arabian Stakes, for Arabian colts and geldings, 3-years-old and up, over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday.

Le Fromage, an 11-year-old gelding, raced well back in the field behind fractions of 25.59, 50.91 and 1:19.65 before making a six-wide move around the turn to take a ½-length lead deep in the stretch then held off the late charge of the runner up Frynge Benefit.  Le Fromage covered the mile distance in 1:49.50

The win improved Le Fromage’s career record to 22 wins from 94 starts and increased his career earnings to $177,071.
