Jockey Dusty Shepherd Injured in Third Race Spill on Saturday
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (June 28, 2008) -- Jockey Dusty Shepherd was taken to Methodist Dallas Medical Center for precautionary testing following an incident in the third race at Lone Star Park on Saturday. Shepherd was unseated from his mount Sheza Texnnow, when the three-year-old filly stumbled about 100 feet before the finish line during a stretch duel with the eventual winner Suddenly Saxy.
Shepherd, who initially got up right after the spill before being removed from the track on a stretcher, complained of shoulder pain but was conscious and alert prior to being transported from the track to the hospital by ambulance.
Sheza Texnnow eventually got up and walked to the horse ambulance to be transported back to the barn of trainer Dallas Barton.
