Coups de Ville Goes Gate to Wire to Win $15,000 Grand Prairie Classic

 

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Oct. 16, 2009)   Dennis Maddox’s Coups de Ville, trained by James Gerhards and ridden by Gaspar Garcia, was the decisive winner by six lengths in the 10th Running of the $15,000 Grand Prairie Classic, a handicap for 3-year-olds, over a fast track on Friday night at Lone Star Park.

 

            Coups de Ville, a 3-year-old gelded son of Dean Miracle, led every step of the way in covering the 870 yards in 46.196 seconds earning a speed index of 89.  Hawk Fan finished in second a half-length in front of Unlikely Angel in third.

 

With the win, Coups de Ville improved his lifetime record to three wins from 10 starts and with the $9,150 winner’s share increased his career earnings to $19,776.

 

Coups de Ville paid $11.40, $7.00 and $5.40, runner up Hawk Fan returned $7.40, $4.20, and Unlikely Angel paid $3.20 to show.  First Hand Luke, Dm Traffic, and Jess On the Take completed the order of finish.

 

Lone Star Park’s 2009 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting of Champions runs from Sept. 25 to Nov. 28. After opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26, racing will be held every Thursday through Saturday, except Thursday, Nov. 26 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
