Survivor and Horse Owner Debra Gotovac to Donate Percentate of Purse Earnings to Fight Breast Cancer
Teams with Trainer Brad Bolen and Jockey Cody Wainscott in Saturday’s Dash For Cash Futurity, Derby, and Juvenile Stakes at Lone Star Park
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Oct. 22, 2009) – Horse owner Debra Gotovac, a breast cancer survivor who has an entry in each of Lone Star Park’s three stakes races on Saturday night – Grade 1, $500,000 Dash for Cash Futurity, Grade 1, $200,000 Dash for Cash Derby, and $50,000 Dash for Cash Juvenile Stakes -- will team up with trainer Brad Bolen and jockey Cody Wainscott in each of the stakes to try to earn funds to benefit women suffering from breast cancer.
"October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this is a great way to create awareness and help others who suffer from the disease," said Gotovac. "We have made up pink hats to wear with the Breast Cancer logo for Swingin Daddyo and Plain Shady, and will donate a percentage of any purse money that we win on Saturday night. It will go to help others who can’t afford their chemotherapy and medications."
Gotovac, who was diagnosed with the illness in August 2005, frequently donates a percentage of her purse winnings to the Allison Cancer Center at Midland (Texas) Memorial Hospital and to the American Cancer Society for their breast prosthesis program.
The disease also significantly impacted Bolen, who trains for Gotovac, when his mother died of breast cancer. On Saturday night, jockey Cody Wainscott, who rode all three horses in time trials two weeks ago -- Swingin Daddyo, the fastest qualifier for the Futurity, Plain Shady (Derby) and Winning Gol (Juvenile) -- will wear a pink ribbon during the races.
Gotovac plans to be at Lone Star Park for the races on both Friday and Saturday nights.
Gotovac and Bolen are available by phone prior to Friday, and all three, including Wainscott, will be available at Lone Star Park on Friday and Saturday evenings. Contact Dan Leary at Lone Star Park (cell – 469/964-0663) for further information.
