GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (June 23, 2010)   The Lone Star Park jockeys will be the featured stars in a number of upcoming events that racing fans are invited to attend to help raise money for the Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund, which assists injured and disabled jockeys and their families.

On Tuesday, June 29, the jockeys will be looking to avenge their 10-6 loss to Lone Star Park employees and media in last year’s inaugural Jockey Charity Softball Game, in a doubleheader at QuikTrip Park, home of the Grand Prairie Air Hogs.  The first game of the 2nd Annual “Rumble at the Park” is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with the second game to follow immediately after.  Gates at QuikTrip Park open at 6:45 p.m. and a donation of $5 at the gate would be appreciated.

The following evening, Wednesday, June 30, at 6 p.m. in Champions on the second floor at Lone Star Park, the jockeys will host their annual Riders Up Stick Horse Auction and Dinner.  The theme of this year’s event is “Dancing with the Jockeys” and the Even Money Band, featuring Lone Star Park’s all-time leading jockey Cliff Berry, will provide the entertainment.

At the dinner, there will be live and silent auctions, including an auction of stick ponies that will be used for the Annual Stick Pony Race on the main track at Lone Star Park following the races on July 4.  Tickets for the BBQ dinner in Champions are $20 and can be purchased at Lone Star Park’s East Grandstand Entrance.

In addition to the post-race stick pony race on July 4, the jockeys will also conduct an autograph session at Lone Star Park on July 3.

The Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund, founded by TV comedian Tim Conway with former jockey Chris McCarron and his wife Judy, assists injured and disabled riders.  It is named after late jockey Don MacBeth who spent much of his time trying to assist those less fortunate than himself before he died of cancer in 1987.

Lone Star Park’s 2010 Spring Thoroughbred Season will run four days a week every Thursday and Friday at 6:35 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1:35 p.m. through July 18.  Special twilight programs with post-race holiday fireworks on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday, July 4 (Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration) will commence at 5:00 p.m.  (All times are Central Time).   Lone Star Park’s 26-day, 2010 Fall Meeting of Champions for American Quarter Horses will be held from Sept. 17 to Nov. 13. For more information, visit LoneStarPark.com or call (972) 263-RACE (7223).
