GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, June 27, 2009) – Poindexter Thoroughbreds LLC’s My Spanx, trained by Allen Milligan, rallied determinedly to win the 12th running of the $50,000 Lone Star Oaks over a firm Lone Star Park turf course on Saturday.
Ridden by Martin Escobar, My Spanx traveled nicely while racing along the rail and just in behind the early leaders through opening fractions of :24.19, and :49.48. The bay daughter of A. P. Delta had some anxious moments at the top of the stretch as she searched for room to run, but once she saw daylight along the rail, she rallied to stop the teletimer in 1:43.18 for the 1 1/16-mile journey. Post time favorite Busy Mass finished a neck back in second, and it was another half-length back to Fourstarattraction in third.
"I was a little worried turning for home,” said winning rider Martin Escobar. “I thought it was going to open up on the outside but the race changed in seconds. I decided to jump inside and go for it, and she really responded for me.”
With the win, My Spanx improved her record to three wins from 12 starts, and in earning her first victory at Lone Star Park, increased her earnings to $133,370.
My Spanx paid $14.00, $6.00, $4.40, runner-up Busy Mass returned $3.60, $3.20, and Fourstarattraction paid $3.80 for show. Megan's Tough Love, City Tone, The Cat Who, Cuvee's Pride, and Streakin' Nun completed the order of finish.
