Quarter Horse Stakes Doubleheader, Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Trials Recaps

KILLER BOD BEST IN B.F. PHILLIPS JR. HANDICAP

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008)   Killer Bod, owned and trained by Don R. Poteet, finished first in a field of five to win the 10th Running of the $30,000 B.F. Phillips Jr. Handicap, for accredited Texas-bred three-year-olds, over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday night.

With jockey David Alvarez up, Killer Bod overcame an awkward start to win by half-a-length covering the 400-yard distance in 20.008 seconds to earn a speed index of 91.  Streakin Illusively finished second a nose in front of Heza Two Timing Man.

“He ran four big races in eight weeks down in Houston, winning four in a row, so we decided to rest him after that and he put on some weight during the time off,” said winning owner-trainer Don Poteet.  “He didn’t run so well in his first two starts off the layoff, but we got him back in shape for this and he ran a big race tonight.”

With the win, Killer Bod improved his lifetime record to eight wins from 13 starts and increased his career earnings to $45,190 with the $19,500 winner’s share.

Killer Bod paid $9.80, $4.20, $2.60, runner-up Streakin Illusively returned $4.20, $2.60 and Heza Two Timing Man paid $3.00 to show.  Bridled Lightnin and Vodka With Ice completed the order of finish.
