GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (October 3, 2009) – Streakin Cherry, owned by Juan Esquivel and trained by James Gonzales, made his Lone Star Park debut a winning one in the 13th running of the Grade 1 $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap over a sloppy track on Saturday night at Lone Star Park.
Ridden by Abdel Torres, the sorrel son of Streakin La Jolla was sharp out of the gate and withstood a late challenge from odds-on favorite Noconi before stopping teletimer in 21.117 for the 440-yard distance, earning a speed index of 106. Noconi finished a half-length back in second, and it was another two-and-a-half lengths back to third-place finisher Dylans Dandy.
With the win, Streakin Cherry recorded his first Grade 1 stakes victory and increased his career earnings to $146,395 while improving his race record to six wins from 14 starts.

Streakin Cherry paid $7.40, $3.60, $4.20, runner-up Noconi returned $2.60, $2.20, and Dylans Dandy paid $4.00 for show. Diamond Tres Seis, Adios My Amigos, Here to Entertain, Sailin Daylon, Ima Candy Suspect, Illegal Memories, and Sassys Tuffy completed the order of finish.
Lone Star Park’s 2009 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting of Champions runs from Sept. 25 to Nov. 28. After opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 25-26, racing will be held every Thursday through Saturday, except Thursday, Nov. 26 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
