Bridesmaid Seek Second Stakes Win in Silver Spur

Asmussen-trained Filly Takes on Six Saturday at Lone Star Park

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (July 24, 2008) – Will Farish’s Bridesmaid, trained by Steve Asmussen, headlines the 12th running of the $75,000 Silver Spur Stakes for 2-year-old fillies going six furlongs at Lone Star Park on Saturday.   The winner of the $100,000 TTA Sales Futurity Stakes at Lone Star Park on June 7, Bridesmaid will look to record the second stakes win of her career after being beaten a head by Sweetacious in the $125,000 Texas Stallion Stakes here on July 12.

             .

“She came out of her last race in good shape, that race didn’t take much out of her,” said Darren Fleming, Steve Asmussen’s head assistant at Lone Star Park. “We’ve liked the way she’s been finishing up in her races and feel that she’ll like being stretched out to six furlongs.”

The Michelle Lovell-trained Time Well Spent, and the Joe Petalino-conditioned Seacrettina appear to be the biggest threats to Bridesmaid on Saturday. Time Well Spent was a sharp debut winner at Louisiana Downs on June 14, winning by 14-and-a-quarter lengths, and Seacrettina scored a sharp win in her career debut at Lone Star Park on May 4 in a four-and-a-half furlong maiden event.

The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, consists of: Peach Brew (Quincy Hamilton, 12-1); Monica’s Skirmish (Cliff Berry, 20-1); Mary’s Place (Luis Quinonez, 10-1); Time Well Spent (Carlos Gonzalez, 3-1); Seacrettina (Ken Tohill, 2-1); Bridesmaid (Justin Shepherd, 7-5); and Naughty N Pg (Richard Eramia, 20-1).

Scheduled as race nine on the 10-race program, the Silver Spur Stakes has an approximate post time of 5:47 P.M. CDT.

Lone Star Park, located in Grand Prairie, Texas, will conclude its 65-day Spring Thoroughbred Season on Sunday, July 27, 2008 with live racing Thursday through Sunday during the final week of the meet.  The first live race begins at 6:35 p.m. on weeknights and 1:35 p.m. on weekends.  Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29.  Additional information on Lone Star Park can be found online at www.lonestarpark.com.
