Jess Zoomin is Top Qualifier for $342,000 Texas Classic Derby on Nov. 28

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, Nov. 13, 2009) –  Jess Zoomin, owned by Jess Zoomin Partners and trained by Heath Taylor, was the fastest qualifier in the trials for the Grade 1, $342,000 Texas Classic Derby held Friday night at Lone Star Park.  The Texas Classic Derby will be run Saturday, Nov. 28 on closing day of Lone Star Park’s 2009 Fall Meeting of Champions.

Ridden by G.R. Carter, Jr., Jess Zoomin ran the 440-yard distance in 21.429 to earn a Speed Index of 99 in the first of the four trials run on Friday.  That time stood up through the remainder of the evening.

The trainer-jockey combination of Trey Wood and Ricky Ramirez qualified three, and the duos of Heath Taylor and G.R. Carter, Jr., and Robert Touchet with Rodrigo Vallejo had two qualifiers each.

The 10 qualifiers (in order with time, jockey and trainer in parenthesis) for the Texas Classic Derby are: Jess Zoomin (21.429, G.R. Carter, Jr., Heath Taylor); Vrrroom (21.515, J.R. Valenzuela, Dwayne Gilbreath); Lake View Dreams (21.547, Ricky Ramirez, Trey Wood); Stolis Winner (21.548, G.R. Carter, Jr., Heath Taylor); Eye Follies (21.559, Kenny Muntz, Stacy Charette-Hill); Lethal Delight (21.561, Ricky Ramirez, Trey Wood); Mr Queens Mystery (21.562, Rodrigo Vallejo, Robert Touchet); Skyline Lover (21.601, Ricky Ramirez, Trey Wood); Zimalue (21.620, Rodrigo Vallejo, Robert Touchet); Fearless Fritz (21.682, Larry Payne, Guillermo Valdivia).

Blurred Vision Partnership’s Vertical Vision ran the 11^th best time (21.744 seconds) and missed qualifying by 0.062 of a second.
