Anna Rose Napravnik Becomes First Female Jockey to Win Lone Star Park Graded Stake Aboard Redding Colliery in Grade 3, $300,000 Lone Star Park Handicap

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (May 31, 2010)   Mrs. Fitriani Hay’s Redding Colliery, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, made it look easy in the 14th running of the Grade 3, $300,000 Lone Star Park Handicap, for 3-year-olds and upward, over a fast main track on Monday.

Ridden by 22-year-old Anna Rose Napravnik, the first female rider to win a graded stakes race in Lone Star Park history, Redding Colliery sat second through the first three quarters of a mile behind fractions of :23.43, :46.26,  and 1:10.66.  The gray son of Mineshaft was called on for his best with a quarter mile to run, and he responded with a strong run through the stretch.  The final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:42.13.  Awesome Gem finished 6 ¾ lengths back in second, and it was another 6 ½ lengths back to Euroears in third.

He usually breaks a little slow, and he only broke a little bit slow today, but he was able to get himself into good position early on,” said winning jockey Anna Rose Napravnik, who in winning the Lone Star Park Handicap recorded her second win in a graded stakes race for the New York-based rider.  “I felt like we would get past the horse we were laying off of early on, and it was a really good feeling when he kicked clear through the stretch.”

With the win, Redding Colliery improved his career mark to five wins from 15 starts, and the $174,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his career earnings to $402,853.

Redding Colliery paid $6.20, $3.40, $3.00, runner-up Awesome Gem returned $2.80, $2.60, and Euroears paid $4.80 for show.  Fifteen Love, Golden Yank, Indy Express, Jonesboro, and Mythical Power completed the order of finish.
