Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby said that support of the ADA is essential to the fight against diabetes. “Every day, the work of the American Diabetes Association and other similar organizations brings us closer to winning the battle against diabetes,” said Gov. Anoatubby. “With continued research and the commitment of dedicated health professionals, we will find the means to not only combat the disease, but prevent it.”
Each Spring for the past 15 years, Lone Star Park has collaborated with “Stars of Texas…Racing Against the Odds” and the ADA raising more than $3.5 million for the fight to stop diabetes and its deadly consequences. The Chickasaw Nation has long been a leader in diabetes care and prevention. Gov. Bill Anoatubby has developed a comprehensive plan to provide long-term solutions to health issues faced by Chickasaw families and other Native Americans. One component of that plan is to supply the education, facilities and services needed to enable children and families to lead healthier lifestyles that help prevent diabetes and other debilitating health problems. According to the ADA website nearly 17 percent of American Indians and Alaska Natives have diabetes, giving them the highest age-adjusted prevalence of diabetes among all U.S. racial and ethnic groups.
The American Diabetes Association is leading the fight to stop diabetes and its deadly consequences and fighting for those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, our mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
