GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (May 5, 2012) – Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie hosted a crowd of 17,352 enthusiastic racing fans on this first Saturday in May, to watch and wager on the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby. That is the highest attendance for Derby day in four years since 2008.
Those 17,352 fans on hand at Lone Star, watched as I'll Have Another became the first horse ever to win The Kentucky Derby from post 19, and jockey Mario Gutierrez, chalked up his first Derby win from his first ever mount in the Run for the Roses. I’ll Have Another is now a perfect three-for-three this year with his win today. Fans that invested $2 were rewarded handsomely with a $32 return.
In addition, $1,131,634 was bet on the Kentucky Derby today at Lone Star Park, more than the $1,054,019 bet on the race last year. The total wagered here today on all races from Churchill Downs increased from last year’s amount of $1,439,606 to $1,519,854.
Be sure to mark your calendar, as the next probable stop for I’ll Have Another will be the 137th Preakness Stakes to be simulcast here on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
