New Main Track Renovation & Grandstand Improvements Highlight 2013 Spring Thoroughbred Season Opener (images)
GRAND PRAIRIE, TX (April 8, 2013) - As Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie prepares for the April 11 opening day of its 2013 Spring Thoroughbred Season, customers and horsemen alike will enjoy a number of substantial improvements put in place by Global Gaming Solutions and the Grand Prairie Sports Facilities Development Corporation. The enhancements total $11 million over a three year period, beginning in 2011 with the $3 million renovation of Bar & Book.
"Our goal was to maximize the changes to underline our commitment to the horsemen who race at Lone Star Park as well as to our loyal customers who enjoy the entertainment and magnificent sport of horse racing," said Drew Shubeck, President and General Manager, Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie.
Just completed in the past few weeks are two major projects which are part of this three year $11 million investment in Lone Star Park: the complete renovation of the main racetrack and the clubhouse Silks Dining Terraces.
The racetrack reconditioning is complete and features a new cushion mixture to ensure track safety and consistency. The process included removal of all cushion material in order to fully inspect the existing limestone base. It was followed by a reapplication of the cushion, allowing for a sub-cushion material to blend with saved cushion material. Washed sand, clay and organics were blended to achieve an optimum blend of cushion materials.
"Our first and foremost objective is to have a safe and consistent racetrack surface and we believe this renovation meets that objective 100%," said Shubeck.
Returning race customers will notice significant changes on the fourth floor of the 280,000 square, foot glass-enclosed, climate-controlled grandstand. The main 1,200 seat Silks Dining Terraces have undergone a dramatic renovation including 1,500 new chairs, 300 plus flat screen televisions along with a fresh new paint palette throughout. A completely redesigned flat screen television presentation will allow for better viewing of the horse races at Lone Star Park and at tracks across the country.
The menu in Silks has also been enhanced to include an offering of modern, healthier choices along with a new salad bar with double the number of selections previously offered in the past.
The multi-million dollar changes found throughout Lone Star Park truly include something for everyone:
- Silks Dining Terraces – new televisions and chairs and paint/theme
- New video wall in the Jockey Club with new tables and chairs
- New video wall in the Paddock Lounge with new tables and chairs
- New chairs, televisions and menu in Silks Dining Terraces and Bar & Book
- A 17’ by 60’, high-definition Daktronics Board
