2014 Spring Thoroughbred Racing Season Kick Off at 6:35 p.m.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Wednesday, April 9, 2014)Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie opens its doors on the 18th Spring Thoroughbred Season tomorrow, Thursday, April 10. Featured race is the traditional opening night $50,000 Premiere Stakes for Accredited Texas-breds, three-year-olds & upward going six and one half furlongs on the main track. Gates open early at 4:30 p.m. Opening Ceremonies will begin at approximately 5:45 p.m. First race post time is 6:35 p.m. Post time for the Premiere Stakes will be approximately 8:27 p.m.

Since winning the 2013 Premiere Stakes under the guidance of then trainer Bret Calhoun, Triumph and Song had not seen the winners circle until entering an Allowance Optional Claiming race last December at Fair Grounds. The five-year-old gelding by My Golden Song was claimed from that race by trainer Karl Broberg for owner H & H Ranch of Horseshoe Bay, Texas and what a great claim it was!

Triumph and Song has flourished for the new connections since the claim. He is a perfect three-for-three this year with wins in the Spirit of Texas Stakes on January 18, the Bucharest Stakes on February 8 and the Sam Houston Sprint Cup on February 22, all at Sam Houston Race Park.

“He’s been training great leading up to the race,” said trainer Karl Broberg. “If speed is holding tomorrow, he should run a race similar to his last four.”

With a win tomorrow in the Premiere, Triumph and Song will be the third horse to win two years back-to-back in its history. Agrivating General won two consecutively for trainer Danny Pish in 2003-04 and Sanburr trained by Mike Stidham won in 2007-08.

The field for the Premiere Stakes is (from the rail out) with jockey and morning line odds listed in parentheses consists of: Lesis More (Brayan Vleazquez, 20-1); Gold Element (Lindey Wade, 4-1); Triumph and Song (Junior Chacaltana, 4-5); Circustown Flyer (Chris R.
