GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Tuesday, July 8, 2014) – Hall of Fame trainer Jack Van Berg will be at Lone Star Park on Saturday, July 12 to meet with racing fans and sign copies of his biography, “Jack, From Grit to Glory, a Lifetime of Mentoring, Dedication and Perseverance.” Copies of the book will be available for $20 inside the East Grandstand entrance beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1985, Jack Van Berg was leading trainer by wins nine times and won the Eclipse Award in 1984. Among his best horses were Alysheba, who won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 1987 and the Breeders’ Cup Classic the following year, and Gate Dancer, who won the Preakness Stakes in 1984. With a total of 6,425 career wins to date, Van Berg is the fifth most winningest trainer in the country.
Van Berg will be joined by the books author, longtime racing personality Chris Kotulak. Kotulak has worked as a track announcer, TVG analyst and is currently full-time at Remington Park.

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Texas Partners LSP and GG LSP. The track offers a 50-day 2014 Spring Thoroughbred Season, which opens Thursday, April 10 and concludes on Saturday, July 12. Live racing will be held three days a week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6:35 p.m. (except Thursday, May 29 when there will be no live racing), and Sundays at 1:35 p.m. (beginning April 27 through June 15.) The racing program on Memorial Day, May 26, will start at 1:35 p.m. A Special twilight program will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 (Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration). Special post times for three Triple Crown dates will begin at 3:33 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, May 17 and June 7 (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.) Lone Star Park is also home to the multi-million dollar simulcast racebook, sports bar and event venue, Bar & Book. The 36,000 square foot venue is open to the public 363 days a year.
