PREPARE TO DON YOUR HATS – KENTUCKY DERBY DAY AT LONE STAR PARK IS HOURS AWAY

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Friday, May 1, 2015) – Are your hats ready? Kentucky Derby Day at Lone Star Park is fast approaching. It’s almost time to put your best hat on and come join the festivities at Lone Star Park. Gates open early Saturday, May 2 at 10:30 a.m. First of 11 live races is at 1:35 p.m. Our famed Kentucky Derby Hat contest begins at 3:00 p.m., and of course, the most famous two minutes in sports, the 141st running of the Grade 1, Kentucky Derby, live via simulcast from Churchill Downs is set to go at 5:34 p.m.

The field for the 141st Kentucky Derby: 

There are two scratches in tomorrow’s “Run for the Roses”, #7 El Kabier and #11 Stanford. Because of the scratches an also eligible horse has moved into the race. Frammento will be breaking from post #21.

Saturdays Kentucky Derby Festivities at Lone Star Park:

Kentucky Derby Hat Contest! Be sure to wear your favorite Kentucky Derby hat and enter our traditional Kentucky Derby Day Hat Contest. We will be awarding two (2) Grand Prizes* for "The Most Stylish" and "The Most Creative" Kentucky Derby Hats. Both winners will each receive $500. Plus, three additional hats will receive an "Honorable Mention" prize. Judging begins at 3 p.m. in our Courtyard of Champions. *Must be present in the Courtyard by 3 p.m. to be considered. Family Fun Park! In addition to a great day of racing, there will be fun activities for the entire family with kid’s activities that include bounce houses, pony rides and a petting zoo in the Family Fun Park beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Live Music! Music lovers can enjoy live music with Deja Groove. They will be performing on our Courtyard of Champions Stage between live races from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.  

The PPV Fight of the Century! The festivities do not end after the races. Continuing in the Bar & Book and also in the Dash for Cash Room on the main level of the Grandstand, we will be showing the PPV Fight of the Century, Mayweather vs. Pacquiao! Join us after the Derby to watch the main event when Floyd "Money" Mayweather takes on Manny "Pac-Man" Pacquiao! $20 Cover Charge Per Person required.

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Texas Partners LSP and GG LSP. The track offers a 50-day 2015 Spring Thoroughbred Season, which opens Thursday, April 9 and concludes on Sunday, July 19.  Live racing will be held three days a week, Friday & Saturday at 6:35 p.m. (except Triple Crown Days May 2, May 16 & June 6 which have a 1:35 p.m. start) and Sundays at 1:35 p.m. Live racing will be held on select Thursdays at 6:35 p.m. (April 9 & 23; June 18; July 16) The racing program on Memorial Day, May 25, will start at 1:35 p.m. A special twilight program will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 4 (Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration).
