GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – What a beautiful night of racing it was at Lone Star Park tonight! 10 live Thoroughbred races kicked of under a gorgeous, mostly sunny sky, a welcomed sight unseen for quite a while in the area.

Congratulations to trainer Bret Calhoun, a Grand Prairie native, who racked up career win number 2,500 tonight when Ship Rock crossed the wire first in the second race. And it didn’t take long to reach win number 2,501. It happened in the next race when Cattle Company won the third. Both Ship Rock and Cattle Company are owned by Douglas Scharbauer of Midland Texas and both ridden to victory by Lone Star Park’s all-time leading rider, Cliff Berry.

Berry went on to capture two more wins on the card, the fifth race aboard Five One Five Oh and the ninth race aboard Perfectly At Home. With four wins tonight, Berry is just six wins away from scoring 1,000 Lone Star Park wins! He will be the only jockey in history to achieve that milestone at the Grand Prairie track. It will be a long wait to see another rider achieve that number of wins here. The rider with the second most wins here, Corey Lanerie, has 476 and he hasn’t ridden here actively since 2003.

Again, congrats to Bret Calhoun for his 2,500th career victory!

Live racing resumes tomorrow, Sunday, May 31. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. First race post time is 1:35 p.m.

We will be following jockey Cliff Berry’s progress closely and keep you posted. He has six mounts in tomorrow.
