GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas  – Jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr. was certainly confident of his charge Fleet Grey tonight in the $93,720 TTA Sales Futurity Filly Division at Lone Star Park.

“She breaks really fast,” said Ricardo Santana, Jr. “I tried to wait for horses to get beside [them]…When she feels a horse on her side, she starts to go.”

Fleet Grey, owned by Clark O. Brewster of Tulsa, OK, quickly sped clear of the field, cruised along on the lead until Josie the E F Five confronted her in the stretch, getting a head in front nearing the sixteenth pole. But the Gr/ro. filly by Too Much Bling would have none of that, taking back the lead to prevail by a neck at the wire under a strong hand ride.

“She showed she was a very talented filly when she broke her maiden at Churchill,” said Darren Fleming, assistant to winning trainer Steve Asmussen

Fractions for the five furlong contest on a fast main track were 22:19 and 45.79. Final time was 59.13.

Betting favorite Fleet Grey returned $2.40, $2.20 and $2.10. Josie the E F Five held place and returned $5.00 and $3.40. Third place went to Flashy G and she returned $3.20. Flyin’ Katnip, Kipling’s Appeal, and Flight Plan completed the order of finish.

The $56,232 winner’s share of the purse put Fleet Grey’s earnings at $78,192. She is a perfect 2 for 2.
