GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Sorry California, the ‘Chromies’ tonight were all about the Lone Star state as in Texas Chrome, a two-year-old colt by Grasshopper. He wowed the crowd with his performance in the $111,020 TTA Sales Futurity colt & gelding Division at Lone Star Park. The final feature on the Stars of Texas night card was one to remember.

After the gates opened on the five furlong dirt sprint Texas Chrome, trained by Shea Stuart, found himself behind all but one in the 11 horse field. However, dirt in his face was of no consequence tonight when jockey Deshawn Parker began his bid in the turn, taking down rivals one by one. With a super burst of speed in upper stretch, he rocketed by the rest posting a two and a quarter length victory at the wire.

“Once I got him clear of horses he just gave me a big kick,” said Deshawn Parker. “I never had to get after him or anything. I just kind of showed him the way. Actually, he took me the way.”

The race went in 22.68 and 46.40 for a final of 59.15 over the dirt track listed as fast.

Owner Danny Keene of Greenville, TX said of his colt tonight, “That’s what you look for. Get that young one that you’ve got a little future with hopefully.”

It looks as if he has a good future in the cards…

Tonight’s win makes it a perfect two-for-two record for Texas Chrome. His debut win was here on May 15. His earnings now total $78,312.

Off at odds of 7.50 to 1, Texas Chrome paid a handsome $17.00, $6.40 and $4.60. Fred’s Lucky Boy was second and paid $26.00 and $10.80. Break Free was third and returned $5.20. Moon Hopper, Cash Bonus, Chatte Bleu, Jet Over, Flying Cat, Tall Tales, A. P. Bling, and Phrase completed the order.
