GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas  – Saturday, July 11, Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie will host an old fashioned horse fair. The event will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. It will be in the saddling paddock just inside the main entrance of Lone Star Park.  It is open to everyone and admission is free.

The fair will feature thoroughbred horses that are ready to move from racing to a second career.  “The fair is an opportunity to bring horses and potential buyers together” said Tracy Sheffield the fair organizer.  “Trainers will bring horses that are available to the saddling paddock so they can be seen by people interested in thoroughbreds as show and riding horses.  The fair will also have a variety of vendors.  We will have tack, feed, equine artists, racehorse re-homing groups, equine insurance and more at the fair.  If you are a horse person, this event is for you.”

Featured equine artists at the horse fair include Kristin Byars, Joanna Zeller Quentin and Marvin Hays.  If you don't come home from the horse fair with a horse, you can come home with a stunning piece of artwork.

Roses to Ribbons Old Fashioned Horse Fair is sponsored by The Paddock Foundation.  The Paddock Foundation is the part of the Texas Thoroughbred Association dedicated to helping thoroughbreds find a second career and a good home after racing.  Hal Wiggins, president of the Texas Thoroughbred Association feels this is a very important mission.  “The goal is to raise awareness and encourage the use of former Thoroughbred racehorses in other disciplines.  An event like this” continued Wiggins “is an ideal way for people in the horse show world to easily connect with these horses.”

The name “Roses to Ribbons” underscores this idea.  Thoroughbreds go from winning blankets of roses to ribbons in the show ring.  Retired thoroughbred racehorses have gone on to represent the United States at the highest levels of jumping and eventing in international competition.

Lone Star Park enthusiastically supports this event.  In addition to providing a concession stand for the event, Lone Star Park will give all attendees of the horse fair free admission to a night at the races.
