Grade 3 Texas Mile Friday - Kentucky Derby Simulcast Saturday - Mother’s Day Sunday  

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Tuesday, May 3, 2016) – You couldn’t ask for a better Kentucky Derby weekend schedule of fun than what Lone Star Park has in store. The action begins Friday, May 6 at the Grand Prairie track with the 20th running of the $200,000 Grade 3 Texas Mile. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. The first of nine live races begins at 7:05 p.m. Post time for the Texas Mile, race 5 is approximately 8:57 p.m. (CDT)

Friday is also Party at the Park night featuring live music in our Courtyard of Champions by The Project. They will be performing from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. In addition to the great live racing and live music, it’s the first Money Machine Mania Friday! Each Friday in May fans can enter to win a 30 second cash grab of up to $2,500 in our money machine! Just go to the Courtyard of Champions to enter before the third race for your chance to win.

Advance wagering will be available Friday on the entire Saturday card at Churchill Downs which of course, will be headlined by the 142nd running of the Grade 1,  $2 Million Kentucky Derby, a.k.a. “The run for the roses.”

On Saturday, May 7 our gates open early at 11:00 a.m. for Kentucky Derby Day. We will have 10 live races, the first of which begins at 2:05 p.m. (CDT)

What better place to have a Kentucky Derby watch party than at Lone Star Park? Dress up in your derby finest and come out to see and be seen, sip on some Mint Juleps and cheer your favorite horse to win the “greatest two minutes in sports!”

Why not enter our annual Best Kentucky Derby Hat Contest and score a possible $500 Grand Prize? We are giving away two of them, $500 for most stylish and $500 for most creative, plus three honorable mention prizes will be awarded. The contest begins at 3:00 p.m. in the Courtyard of Champions.

Judging the best hat contest this year are LeeAnne Locken of Real Housewives of Dallas, Leigh Ann Adam of 103.7 KVIL and Steve Kemble, America’s Sassiest Style Guru.

Everyone can enjoy live music in the Courtyard Saturday from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. by Incognito.

In addition to the live racing fun, children can enjoy our Family Fun Park with bounce houses, pony rides and a petting zoo from noon to 5 p.m. 

Post time for the live simulcast of the 142nd Kentucky Derby is at 5:34 p.m. (CDT) Make your plans to come join the biggest derby watch party around. 

The weekend fun continues through to Sunday, May 8 for Mother’s Day! Treat your mother to a day at the races. In addition to a great day of racing, all women 21 years of age or older that enter the admission gates by 2:00 p.m. will receive an entry form for their chance to win various great prizes  including Massage's, Spa Days, Jewelry, Cash and more in our Mother's Day Appreciation Giveaways! Drawings will be held between live races for prizes any Mother would love.

Bring the kids too. We'll have bounce houses, pony rides and a petting zoo for the youngsters to enjoy in the Family Fun Park. Gates open Sunday at noon and the first of 10 live races is at 2:05 p.m.

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Texas Partners LSP and GG LSP. The track offers a 50-day 2016 Spring Thoroughbred Season, which opens Thursday, April 7 and concludes on Sunday, July 17.  Live racing will be held three days a week, Friday & Saturday at 7:05 p.m. (except Triple Crown Days May 7, May 21 & June 11 which have a 2:05 p.m. start) and Sundays at 2:05 p.m. Live racing will be held on select Thursdays at 7:05 p.m. (April 7 & 21; May 19; June 16; July 14).
