GRADE 3 LONE STAR PARK HANDICAP HEADLINES THE MEMORIAL DAY CARD MONDAY AT LONE STAR PARK

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, May 28, 2016) – The Grade 3 $200,000 Guaranteed Lone Star Park Handicap at a mile and a sixteenth on dirt for three-year-olds and up, will be the ninth and featured race on the Memorial Day 10-race program Monday. Gates open at noon. First race post time is 2:05 p.m. Approximate post time for the Handicap is 5:58 p.m. (CDT).

Owner/trainer C. R. Trout the conditioner of morning line favorite (5-2) Shotgun Kowboy, who is seeking a second graded stakes win to add to his record. The four-year-old gelded son of Kodiak Kowboy won a pair of stakes at Remington Park last year as a three-year-old, including the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby. Since then he has come up short in four attempts, most recently finishing second  by only a half length in the Texas Mile (G3) here earlier this month. He switches back to jockey Luis Quinonez who was aboard for three of his six career wins.

Cyrus Alexander, installed as second choice (3-1) is owned in partnership by Spendthrift Farm LLC & Stonestreet Stables LLC and conditioned by Hall of Fame trainer, Jerry Hollendorfer. The four-year-old Medaglia d’Oro colt has won a pair of optional claiming allowances. His best so far in stakes company is a fourth in the Grade 3 Affirmed last year at Santa Anita and a fourth in the Santana Mile there on April 2. He finished eighth in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap in March. His regular rider Martin Garcia will be in town to ride.

Trainer Al Stall, Jr. is sending five-year-old Rocket Time (7-2) a gelding by Tiz Wonderful. Owned by Frank Fletcher Racing Operations, Inc. he has won three of four starts this year, optional claiming allowances, one at Fair Grounds in January, another at Oaklawn in March and the most recent at Churchill May 7. He finished third in the Grade 3 Commonwealth last year at Keeneland, his only graded stakes attempt to date. Jockey Colby Hernandez has the call.

Other of note: Michael Langford’s five-year-old gelding Carve (9-2) is back after finishing third in the Grade 3 Texas Mile. He is trained by Steve Asmussen and will be ridden by Iram Diego. And Brad Grady’s Supermason (4-1) a four-year-old gelding by Grasshopper, won the Premiere Stakes here opening night, then set a new track record on the grass in a seven and a half furlong optional claiming allowance May 15. Supermason is trained by Bret Calhoun and will be ridden by Lindy Wade.

Rounding out the field is Spider’s Alibi (20-1) a four-year-old colt by Lookin At Lucky, owned by Terry Propps and trained by Charles E. Smith with David Cabrera up, and F J Uncle Vic (30-1) a five-year-old Uncle Abbie gelding owned by Terry Propps and trained by Terry Eoff. Ernesto Valdez-Jiminez will ride.

Around the Track: Trainer Danny Pish scored career victory 1,999 today when five-year-old mare Lindy Hoppin crossed the wire first in the night cap. That makes it one to go for career win number 2,000! Pish has seven entered on Monday’s card tomorrow.
