GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Monday, May 30, 2016) – Spendthrift Farm LLC & Stonestreet Stables LLC’s Cyrus Alexander sent by Hall of Fame trainer, Jerry Hollendorfer, won the Grade 3, $200,000 Lone Star Park Handicap at Lone Star Park Monday, Memorial Day. It was his first graded stakes win.

  The winner stalked the pace, made a four wide bid at the quarter pole, dueled briefly with the favorite Shotgun Kowboy, and then drew clear to cross the wire two and a half lengths in front posting a final time of 1:43.12. Fractions set for the mile and sixteenth contest were 23.32, 45.90 and 1:10.24 over a main track listed as fast.  

“When he broke I knew I had a lot of horse and I knew I had a little target,” said winning Jockey Martin Garcia. “I just followed the number one horse (Shotgun Kowboy) who was one of the favorites and when I found myself outside, I was pretty comfortable.”

Cyrus Alexander returned $6.00, $2.60 and $2.20 as the second betting choice. Favorite, Shotgun Kowboy was up for place and returned $2.40 and $2.20. Rocket Time finished third and returned $2.80. Spider’s Alibi, Supermason, Carve and F J Uncle Vic finished in that order.

This was the first stakes and first graded stakes win for the four-year-old colt by Medaglia d’Oro and out of Supercharger, a daughter of A. P. Indy. Adding the winner’s share of $119,000 purse money today, Cyrus Alexander has bankrolled a total of $299,205, and this marked his fourth win from 15 career starts.

Trainer Danny Pish scored career victory 2,000 in today’s 2nd race when U.S. Officer crossed the wire first. His career starts through yesterday according to Equibase are 11,828, and they have reported career earnings of $28,387,797. Locally, Pish has had a stable at Lone Star Park every season since its inaugural meet in the spring of 1997. He is third on the all time trainers list at the Grand Prairie track. Through the end of today, his stats at Lone Star Park are: 3,536 starts, 549 wins, 21 of those were stakes wins, 520 2nds, 475 thirds, and earnings of $9,502,129. He has finished in the top 10 of the standings every year since 2000, and was leading trainer of the meet in 2012. Congratulations Danny on your 2,000th win milestone!

Jockey Alfredo Sigala was transported to Medical City Dallas for observation after his mount in the seventh race, #6 Peacenquiet fell rendering the rider briefly unconscious. When the horse got back to its feet, it collided with the #7 Isle of Karmoy, unseating his rider Bryan McNeil. Both horses and McNeil were all up and walking after the incident. Sigala was conscious, moving his limbs and talking before being transported by ambulance to the above hospital.
