Lone Star Park Patron Wins $702,114 On Belmont Pick Six Ticket

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, June 11, 2016) – Lone Star Parks all-time leading trainer, Steve Asmussen wins his first Belmont Stakes when his horse Creator edged out Destin by one of the  narrowest of margins in the races history, a nose! In the 148 runnings of the Belmont Stakes, also known as the Test of Champions, it was just the fourth time the winner was decided by a photo.

Preakness winner, the locally owned and favorite, Exaggerator finished 11th out of the 13 horse field by about 14 lengths. The Japanese horse, Lani was third. Exaggerator and Lani were the only two three-year-olds that competed in all three Triple Crown races this year.

Creator paid $34.80, $14.60 and $9.40, Destin paid $9.40 and $6.20, and Lani paid $6.60

This was Asmussen’s third classic race win. He won the Preakness two times, with Curlin in 2007 and with Rachel Alexandra in 2009. This was his third attempt and the charm in the Belmont Stakes. Curlin finished second in the Belmont after his Preakness win in 2007, and Nehro finished fourth in 2011. Congratulations Steve on a great win today!

A fan, who asked to remain anonymous, played the pick six wager at Lone Star Park’s Bar & Book today on the Belmont Stakes card and picked all six winners correct. And what a nice win it was. The ticket returned $702,114! It was the largest payout ever on a single ticket at the Grand Prairie track.
