HALL OF FAME TRAINER STEVE ASMUSSEN’S BIM BAM BREAKS LONG STANDING TURF RECORD SUNDAY

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Sunday, June 19, 2016) – A new course record was set in the first race of the Father’s Day card at Lone Star Park. Nine-year-old horse Bim Bam beat a long standing record at a mile and three eighths on the grass. Final time was 2:13.46 beating the record of 2:13.53 set back in 1998.

Bim Bam is owned and trained by Hall of Fame and local all-time leading trainer, Steve Asmussen. Jockey Iram Diego was aboard for the horse’s 11 career victory from 59 starts. Bim Bam has amassed earnings of $817,692 in his lengthy race career.

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Texas Partners LSP and GG LSP. The track offers a 50-day 2016 Spring Thoroughbred Season, which opens Thursday, April 7 and concludes on Sunday, July 17.  Live racing will be held three days a week, Friday & Saturday at 7:05 p.m. (except Triple Crown Days May 7, May 21 & June 11 which have a 2:05 p.m. start) and Sundays at 2:05 p.m. Live racing will be held on select Thursdays at 7:05 p.m. (April 7 & 21; May 19; June 16; July 14). The racing program on Memorial Day, May 30, will start at 2:05 p.m. A special twilight program will be held at 5 p.m. both on Sunday, July 3 and Monday, July 4 (Lone Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration).
