GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Saturday, July 9, 2016) – Boomer’s Boy with C. J. McMahon up, lost his footing at the start, disputed the pace between rivals, then came out under a left hand whip and bumped eventual fourth place finisher, Sir Papa John. McMahon switched back to a right handed whip and gamely prevailed while being strongly urged. Following an inquiry onto the stretch run, Boomer’s Boy was disqualified and placed fifth.

That gave the win to Clark O. Brewster’s Shaded, a two-year-old colt by Too Much Bling. The Steve Asmussen trainee fought throughout under strong urging that was increased by switching the whip from left to right and back again gaining on the disqualified winner to just miss. But by benefit of the disqualification, was declared the official winner. Fractions for the five furlongs on a fast track were 23.36 and 47.20 for a final time of 59.75.

Jockey Iram Diego said “He broke a little flat-footed. We had to go to plan B. I guess it was a lucky day today to win like that (through disqualification). He decided to run very late.”

Shaded is now a perfect 2 for 2, and a stakes winner with a bankroll of $66,449.
