Around the Track: Sunday, July 17 is closing day on the 2016 Spring Thoroughbred Season. There are a total of 34 remaining, and with 14 wins more than the other riders, it appears likely C. J. McMahon is about to win his second consecutive riding title at Lone Star Park. Through the end of racing Sunday, July 10, he’s racked up 91 wins. Iram Diego has been giving McMahon a run throughout the season. Diego has won 77 races to date, a number certain to increase before it’s over. Trainer Karl Broberg is close to locking the training title with a win total of 56 over Steve Asmussen with 44. Bret Calhoun is in third with 40 wins. The owner title is still up for grabs. End Zone Athletics currently holds one win advantage over Steve Asmussen of 19 to 18. Danny Keene is in third with 13 wins. Good luck to all of our horsemen. We will be following closely.
