REFRIGERATOR HANDICAP (G1) WINNER, JESSIES FIRST DOWN NAMED 2016 WORLD CHAMPION QUARTER HORSE

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Thursday, January 19, 2017) – Jessies First Down, winner of the 2016 Refrigerator Handicap (G1) at Lone Star Park was named 2016 World Champion Quarter Horse racehorse by the American Quarter Horse Association at their awards ceremony Wednesday night in Oklahoma City. The 5-yr-old gelding by Fdd Dynasty, out of Jess a Classy Lassy, by Mr Jess Perry also received Champion older gelding and Champion older horse.

Bred and owned by Ted G. Abrams of Houston and conditioned by 2016 World Champion and Lone Star Park Champion Trainer Judd Kearl, Jessies First Down racked up eight wins, including three Grade 1’s, from 11 starts during his 2016 campaign earning $430,042.   

His Grade 1 wins came in the Refrigerator Handicap at Lone Star Park, the Zia Park Championship and the Sunland Park Championship.

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I racetrack operated by Texas Partners LSP and GG LSP. The track offers a 50-day 2017 Thoroughbred Season, which opens Thursday, April 20 and concludes on Sunday, July 30.  Live racing will be held three days a week, Friday at 6:35 p.m., Saturday at 5:00 p.m. (except Triple Crown Days May 6, May 20 & June 10 which have a 1:35 p.m. start) and Sundays at 2:35 p.m. Live racing will be held on select Thursdays at 6:35 p.m. (April 20, June 15 & July 27).
