GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Monday, February 6, 2017) -- Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie will hold its 21st annual National Anthem auditions on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Auditions will be held outdoors (weather permitting). Soloists, duets, choirs, instrumentalists and groups are invited to audition.

Those interested must audition in person to perform the National Anthem during Lone Star Park’s 2017 Spring Thoroughbred Season, which begins April 20 and continues through July 30. Walk ups are welcome, but we encourage you to reserve an appointment by calling Lone Star Park at (972) 263-7223. Those with appointments will be given priority on audition times.

Hopefuls are asked to perform the “The Star-Spangled Banner” – a cappella in two minutes or less – and must memorize the lyrics before the audition. Performances will be judged by Lone Star Park officials.

Auditions will be held just west of the Lone Star Park winner’s circle and each performer will be shown and recorded on the track’s infield Daktronics screen. Also, as a reminder, expect to hear a half second delay in the sound system during your performance.

All participants will be notified on or before March 21, 2017 whether or not they were chosen to perform.   If you were chosen to perform, the date and information will be included in your letter. Each person selected to perform will receive four (4) reserved seats and one (1) valet parking pass for live racing on the performance date.

Lone Star Park is located one half-mile north on Belt Line Road off Interstate 30 at 1000 Lone Star Parkway in Grand Prairie – 12 miles west of Dallas and 20 miles east of Fort Worth.

“The Star-Spangled Banner”
by Francis Scott Key (1812)

    Oh say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
Oh say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave
