AS JUSTIFY GOES FOR TRIPLE CROWN IN BELMONT STAKES LOCAL ASMUSSEN SEEKS UPSET WITH TENFOLD

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (June 7, 2018) – Join us Saturday, June 9, for exciting live Thoroughbred racing and to see if Justify can make history by winning the 150th running of the $1.5 million Belmont Stakes (G1) and the 13th Triple Crown. Gates open early at 10:30 a.m. The first of 10 live races has an early post time of 1:35 p.m. Admission is just $5. General Parking is free.

Lone Star Park will showcase the historic Belmont Stakes on its giant infield Daktronics video screen and on in-house television screens throughout the facility. Approximate post time for the Belmont Stakes live simulcast is 5:46 p.m. CDT.

ADVANCE WAGERING
Advance wagering on the entire Saturday Belmont card will be available all day Friday at any mutuel window and on self-serve terminals throughout the facility.

BAR & BOOK OPENS EARLY
Bar & Book opens early Saturday at 9:30 a.m. There are eight graded stakes races on the Belmont Stakes undercard, race 3 is the $750,000 Ogden Phipps (G1); race 4 is the $700,000 Acorn (G1); race 5 is the $400,000 Brooklyn Invitational (G2); race 6 is the $400,000 Jaipur Invitational (G2); race 7 is the $400,000 Woody Stephens (G2); race 8 is the $700,000 Longines Just A Game Stakes (G1); race 9 is the $1.2 million Runhappy Metropolitan (G1) ; and race 10 is the $1 million Woodford Reserve Manhattan (G1).

Bee Jersey, winner of the $200,000 Steve Sexton Mile (G3) here last month, will take on a field of 11 in the $1.2 million Runhappy Metropolitan (G1). Bee Jersey is one of four entries local trainer Steve Asmussen has running on the Belmont Stakes Day card. He also has Tenfold entered in the Belmont Stakes (G1).

THE BELMONT STAKES
The Belmont Stakes, the final jewel of the Triple Crown, is the oldest of the three classic races. It has been contested 149 times since its inception in 1847. It is also the longest of the three races at 1 ½ miles. The Kentucky Derby is 1 ¼ miles and the Preakness is 1³/16 miles.

Justify is two thirds of the way of becoming the 13th horse to win the Triple Crown in its history. Although a grueling campaign crammed into a few short weeks that some thought would never happen again, American Pharoah proved those wrong in 2015 after a 37-year wait. And though it’s been just three short years since, Justify is the type of horse that can get it done.

There are nine others hoping to claim the garland of white carnations and stop Justify in his quest for the crown. There is Hofburg (Tapit) who had a bad trip for a seventh place finish in the Kentucky Derby and skipped the Preakness. He is the 9-2 second morning line choice. Then there is Bravazo (Awesome Again) who was a fast closing second to Justify in the Preakness Stakes. And watch out for Tenfold (Curlin). The Steve Asmussen trainee was also closing fast in the Preakness, getting up for third. This would be the second Belmont Stakes win for Asmussen if Tenfold were to upset Justify and the others. Asmussen won the race in 2016 with Creator. Creator was the winner of the Arkansas Derby that year going into the Kentucky Derby. After finishing 13th in the derby he skipped the Preakness and was game in wearing down the competition to win the Belmont Stakes.

LONE STAR PARK RACING CLUB HORSE LODI STREET WINS FIRST RACE FOR THE CLUB ON SATURDAY

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (June 2, 2018) – It was a BIG win in today’s sixth race for Lone Star Park Racing Club when their horse Lodi Street, was first at the wire.

The LSPRC was formed by Lone Star Park this season to give fans a chance to experience race horse ownership for a low cost per share. A total of 80 people joined the club, but were without a horse for the first few weeks. The clubs trainer, J. R. Caldwell, had dropped several claims for horses, but lost the shake on the first three. Finally, Lodi Street (Street Move) was successfully claimed for the club two weeks ago and was entered in today’s race by Caldwell.

Nearly all of the 80 club share owners were on hand for the race to cheer on Lodi Street. It was a thrilling finish! With jockey Lane Luzzi in the irons, Lodi Street settled in middle of the field for the first half of the race, moved out in upper stretch rallying into the final furlong, making a bid at the sixteenth pole to prevail by three quarters of a length at the wire. Final time for the six and a half furlong race on a fast main track was 1:18.11. Early fractions were 23.00 and 45.83.

What an exciting day for the LSPRC members getting their first winner’s circle picture from their first attempt!

Around the track
Through the end of racing Saturday, leading jockey Richard Eramia is 21 wins in front of Iram Diego through day 22 of the 44-day meet. Eramia has racked up 53 wins so far. Diego has 32 wins. Lindey Wade is in third place with 17 wins. Karl Broberg tops the trainer’s standings with 47 wins. Steve Asmussen has 34, and Bret Calhoun has 11 wins.
