FIELD OF 11 SET FOR THE $39,060 AQHA DISTAFF CHALLENGE

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Wednesday, October 3, 2018) – It’s going to be “Fast Horse Friday” at Lone Star Park as we feature 12 action packed Quarter Horse races on Friday, October 5. Headlining the card is the $39,060 AQHA Distaff Challenge for fillies & mares, 3-yrs-old and up going 400 yards. Gates open at 5 p.m. First race post time 6:05 p.m.

The AQHA Distaff Challenge is one of five regional Challenge races scheduled throughout the year at various North American racetracks. It offers two automatic berths to the Grade 1, $100,000 Distaff Challenge Championship which is part of the Bank of America Challenge Championships at Los Alamitos on November 17. The first and second place finishers from each of the five regionals will get compete in the Championship. This is the final of the five regionals.

Of the 11 fillies and mares entered is 3-yr-old filly Jess Adalida by Jess Louisiana Blue. Trained by Josue Ponce she had a stand-out season last year qualifying for and placing in the West Texas Juvenile at Sunland Park. Then qualified and won the Retama Juvenile Challenge in August. Last September she qualified to the Grade 2, Dash For Cash Futurity here, but ducked in at the start for a fifth place finish in the final. In her two starts this year she qualified for the Old South Derby at Delta Downs finishing a disappointing eighth in the final. She’s had some time off and if she’s back to form, she could be tough. Owned by Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Jess Adalida has drawn the inside post and will be ridden byManuel Gutierrez.

The Distaff Challenge is race 11 on the 12-race lineup. Approximate post time is 10:45 p.m.
